For Oprah's first Australian visit Austral Bricks asked us to create a Brick Art wall to commemorate her arrival. Andrew Deutscher our Ballarat studio manager put his extensive artistic skills to work and created the "Oprah Wall".
Originally we had hoped the wall would be built at the Opera House, Austral Bricks put the proposal to Tourism Australia. Their response was very positive so they sent the idea to Oprah's people for approval. Apparently they received 5,000 requests and our idea was knocked back. But the idea was not left to die a slow death. Mark Ellenor the General Manager for Austral Bricks NSW said they would build it at their Horsley Park site instead.
To show people the true size of the project we decided to capture the wall from start to finish in time lapse. This video is the end result. Our thanks must go to Damien Leze who did the time lapse photography. Eight days work with many enduring not stop rain. Damien was there at 6am every morning and kept a straight face through a couple of very wet mornings only to learn the brick layers weren't turning up because it was too wet.
In the past Brown Ink Design have been responsible for a number of Brick Art walls, including Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods and Barrack Obama to name a few. Check out the gallery of these at the bottom of this article.
